Fascia or connective tissue forms a
network throughout the body and wraps every muscle, bone, organ,
blood vessel and nerves pass through the space in it. The
brain and spinal cord are also wrapped in fascia. When a
trauma occurs the fascia binds down on the structure that it
surrounds. If left unresolved fascia will slowly tighten
in the injured area and will start to pull and bind areas nearby
and potentially throughout the body. This results poor
posture, muscle tension, restriction and poor circulation
leading to pain. Myofascial Release Therapy plays an
important role in the treatment and prevention of Myofascial
Pain Syndrome.
Myofascial Release therapy is a
hands-on form of bodywork used to release restrictions in the
body's fascial system (internal connective tissue). It is used
to eliminate pain and restore mobility. Through myofascial
release, the patient is also educated in proper body mechanics
and movement, enhancement of posture, flexibility, and strength.
